GIMP is an Image Manipulation Program under a GNU License. The program is free for all users and is available for Mac to PC and Linux. GIMP is the open source equivalent of Photoshop. With it being open source GIMP contains many tools used in Photoshop but all are open sourced and built from the ground up. GIMP allows for a highly customized interface, users can change anyway they desire. One such tool is called photo enhancement which can remove different parts of images if they become distorted. GIMP also allows for channel mixing as well as digital photo retouching. GIMP supports many file formats such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, and PSD. Formats such as TGA, BMP, KWD, XPM, PIX, CEL, MNG, PPM, and PCX are also supported. A user may not be able to find some of these formats even in professional programs. GIMP supports connecting to a remote server using FTP, HTTP, and SMB, which allow users to connect to a server and edit files directly through the program. With the wide range of tools offered in GIMP, it is a great alternative to Photoshop.
